New TV Pilot for Shatner

William Shatner to star in new fall TV comedy

So William Shatner is at it again.  He's set to star in a new comedy TV pilot for CBS.  The show is being produced by the creators of "Will and Grace".

It's based on the Twitter page "Shit My Dad Says" that Justin Halpern put up to showcase the foul mouthed, funny stuff that comes out of his dad's mouth.  The 29 year old Halpern came up with the idea after being forced to move back in with his parents.  His 74 year old father Sam Halpern, who used to work in nuclear medicine at the University of California at San Diego, never fails to deliver.  For example, take this post from March 22nd:  "Don't ask for my opinion then. I said congrats on the car, just saying nobody's panties are getting wet from a f#cking Honda Accord." or this one from April 16th:   "I’m not sure you can call that roughing it, son… Well, for one, there was a f#cking minivan parked forty feet from your sleeping bags.” The Twitter page has over a million followers.

The younger Halpern, who is co-writing the script, says it may not be quite as harsh as the actual Twitter page but more along the lines of  "Stuff My Dad Says" or "Papa the Potty Mouth".  Shatner is set to play the role of Sam Halpern.

After years of watching Boston Legal, William Shatner's curmudgeonly but lovable portrayal of mad cow laden Denny Crane has become engrained in my psyche, so it will be nice to see him in a different role.  This character promises to be a little more rough around the edges.  Still, it's hard to know whether a show based on a bunch of Twitter post one liners will translate into comedy sitcom success for William Shatner and CBS.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

P.S.  Here's the link again to the ShitMyDadSays Twitter Page if you want to check it out.
